4 Tips on How to Enjoy a Red, White and Green 4th of July

Here are a few ways you can be a little greener over the 4th of July, and all summer long!

  1. Ditch the plastics! Use your own kitchen ware or pick up some biodegradable plates and cutlery at the grocery store for just little more than the cost of the plastic stuff.
  2. Get outside! The hot weather makes it tempting to pump the Air Conditioning and “chill” inside. Don’t do it! Turn off the TV and computer and get outside to enjoy some old fashioned fun! Hit the beach, play some horseshoes, barbecue or get out the volleyball net. You’ll save on energy {and it will be way more fun}.
  3. Keep it green after dark! For only a few dollars, you can pick up some solar lights at the local hardware store. Once the sun goes down, resist turning on the flood lights and let the sun light do the work.
  4. Get crafty! Rather than spending money on decorations that only come out once a year, channel your inner Martha Stewart and reuse things like newspaper or tin cans to make your own 4th of July decorations. Check out these homemade flags or red, white and blue luminaries.

Giving Back to the Community and Environment

It’s no secret that Nauset Disposal is a big community supporter. It’s also obvious, given the nature of our business, that we are advocates for our environment. But how do those two tie together? There are many local organizations that support environment sustainability and pull in the support of year round and seasonal residents, as well as tourists. A few of these organizations are the Cape Cod Commercial Fisherman’s Alliance, the Community Development Partnership and CARE for the Cape & Islands. These organizations, and so many other local non-profits, are valuable community partners that share the same vision as Nauset Disposal: to make Cape Cod a cleaner and greener place for all to enjoy. Here’s a little information on each organization- visit their websites for more information on how you can get involved with each.

Cape Cod Commercial Fisherman’s Alliance is an organization founded on an in depth understanding of the ocean and the life in it, and is aimed at protecting fish and fishing for future generations.

Community Development Partnership developed a Community Investment Plan, the aim of which is to strengthen business sectors on the lower Cape, increase affordability of housing and to increase energy efficiency and local renewable energy generation.

CARE for the Cape & Islands is Cape Cod’s first travelers’ philanthropy initiative and seeks to encourage, support and create opportunities for visitors to donate their time and talent to help preserve and protect our local environment.

“BIG kudos to your driver who picked up at Eastham Cape Cod Five today! He did a remarkable job navigating our parking lot this morning. We had 2 big Eversource trucks with trailers along with a car blocking half the driveway, making backing out a challenge, but he maneuvered like a pro! Nicely done! I always like to hear positive feedback, so I thought I would pass it along.”
